It is June already! What!? How? But June it is, and some of your children have already started their summer holidays and we are one of those “blessed” once, already on vacations. Every year it frightens me how long this summer without school would last (for us 2 months and a half!). I wonder how are we going to fulfill all this time with kids? But after that, year after year, summer holidays go away in the blink of an eye, and is September again. For me good planning in advance is everything.

I’ve started to prepare this year summer travels in early May and I found it was too late for some good occasions for balanced quality-price places to stay with family. But still, for me, this part of the preparation of summer travel is the funniest bit! Anyway, it’s all about having ideas, make a plan, organization, and effort to try to satisfy everyone’s needs and necessities.

Since we are speaking about traveling, today I will give you some suggestions about travel games. My travel game choices are great to either occupy kids at a restaurant before a meal, or on a family holiday for weeks away! I love games that help us bond and entertain for hours of fun and laughter. I have chosen these games because most of them can be played from three years old, which means everyone can join in and bond as a family. And I love that games are also a great shared experience for siblings!

Here are my favorite family travel games:

Double – This is a great game for the whole family, and everyone has an equal chance of winning. Even Victoria played this at age 3! And I love that it’s small enough to fit in your handbag for games on the go.

Uno — perfect to entertain the over 5-year-olds and their parents for hours. I love it when the whole family can play together!

Jenga – Stack ’em high game, and test both patience and skill.

Dixit – Humorous Party Card Game with Loads of Imaginative Storytelling. To develop language acquisition and creative play for children from 3 years old.

Cortex – exciting brain-busting card game – tests up to six players’ memory, cognition and sensory perception. For children from 4 years old and up.

I hope these travel games will occupy you and your children during long trips and you will find them as much useful, entertaining and fun as my children and I do!

Speaking of summer travels — below we have gathered some of our blog archives for practical and inspirational posts. I come back to some of these brilliant tips every year!

Happy holidays!
